The route starts in Lagos, where you can explore its heritage and monuments like churches, museums, a castle, and city walls. These spots offer fantastic views of the city, the bay, and the Monchique Mountains.
Don’t miss visiting Ponta da Piedade and the stunning beaches in this region, known for their beauty. Take a walk around the charming Lagos marina, where you can check out the Caravel of Boa Esperança, a replica of the ships used during the “Portuguese Discoveries.” This ship has been in Lagos since 2001 and has an onboard Interpretation Center that provides insights into the Algarve’s role during the “Portuguese Discoveries.”
This section is the beginning of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, starting in Burgau and extending to Section 11 in São Torpes (Sines).
When you reach Sagres, the final stop of this route and the Algarve Ecovia, you’ll discover significant historical sites and places to explore, including megalithic monuments, Ponta and Sagres Fortress, and the Biodiversity Station on the Boca do Rio Beach.
