Situated within the village of Burgau, this is a town beach that marks the western boundary of the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park. The sands stretch along a small bay, sheltered from inclement weather, and which serves as a fishing port. Here, fishing is still carried on in the traditional way using equipment such as buckets, dragnets and fish hooks.
As is the case in Salema, here too you can watch the boats landing their catch and sample the fresh fish later on in the village restaurants. Beachgoers therefore share the sands with the fishing boats and the fishermen’s equipment.
To the east, the landscape is marked by the greyish limestone and marl cliff, deeply gouged by running water. The orientation of the beach and the position of the cliffs provide shelter from the prevailing winds, resulting in calm seas for bathing.
