The Cathedral of Setúbal is dedicated to Santa Maria da Graça (Saint Mary of Grace). The current church was built in the 16th century and replaced a small roman-gothic construction of the 13th century. The project was designed by architect António Rodrigues who built it according to a Mannerist influence.
Inside, there are gold leafed carved altarpieces from the 17th and 18th centuries as well as 17th century painted frescos on the columns supporting the naves. The lateral walls are covered in blue and white tiles from the 18th century and feature scenes from the Virginïs life.
The Bishop of Setúbal celebrates mass here.
