Section 8 - Alentejo

Aljezur / Odeceixe

This section begins in Aljezur and ends in Odeceixe. Before leaving Aljezur, make sure to visit the Fountain of Lies and its Municipal Museum, which has an archaeological center displaying artifacts from the county.

As you head to the charming village of Rogil, taste the famous Rogil Bread, baked in a wood oven, a tradition of the Claro family since 1965. In the same village, explore the mill, where you can find delightful treats made from sweet potatoes. You can even taste craft beer made with this unique local ingredient.

Next is the village of Maria Vinagre, and a bit further on, from the top of the  Sweet Potato Museum, you can see the white houses of Odeceixe village nestled in the meadow, with the Seixe Stream flowing towards the sea. Depending on the tide, the stream creates interesting islets in the middle of the beach.

Odeceixe Beach, located in a picturesque valley, offers the choice of swimming in the sea or in the river. During low tide, children enjoy the small lagoons that form on this large sandy beach.

Odeceixe marks the end of the Algarve villages on this route and welcomes you to the Alentejo region.

This section is part of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, which stretches from São Torpes, south of Sines to Burgau. It includes areas in the municipalities of Aljezur, Odemira, Sines, and Vila do Bispo.
