Leaving Faro, Section 2 passes through Quinta do Lago, a grand holiday resort in the Algarve (parish of Almancil, Loulé municipality), considered one of the most luxurious in all of Europe. Nestled within the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, in the middle of a vast pine tree landscape, you’ll experience a breathtaking view of the lake and the Atlantic Ocean. Quinta do Lago is also a unique destination for birdwatchers, especially in the area of São Lourenço Lagoon. Additionally, there’s a long sandy beach named Quinta do Lago Beach, known for its smooth sands without rocks.
Continuing your journey, you’ll reach Quarteira, a tourist town in Algarve. The town has a pleasant seafront promenade with palm trees, parallel to the ocean surrounded by beaches.
The next destination to explore is Vilamoura, one of the largest leisure resorts in Europe. Tennis courts, horse riding, a casino, and an airfield are some examples of a tourist complex where the marina takes the spotlight. Great beaches with extensive sands, excellent accessibility, and a lot of day and night entertainment make Vilamoura an outstanding destination.
Continuing the journey, you’ll reach Albufeira. From the Arab period remains the narrow alleys, the old castle and the very white houses with arches. From a village with a long fishing tradition and a thriving fish export industry, the Pescadores Beach keeps its colorful boats which nowadays are also used for tourist visits to the fabulous sea caves along the coast. It offers about 30 kilometers of coastline and more than two dozen diverse beaches. A seaside walk along the promenade provides magnificent views of the city, the beaches, and the rock formations.
This section with 33 kilometers, is part of the Ecovia do Algarve, a 214-kilometer cycling route that connects Vila Real de Santo António to Sagres, crossing 12 municipalities along the southern coastal strip of the Algarve.
