Section 4 - Algarve

Sagres / Aljezur

The section starts at Sagres town, where you can visit immediately the Cape St. Vincent lighthouse, at Cape St. Vincent, in the fortress with the same name.

As historical and cultural heritage along this section we can also highlight the Fortress of Beliche, the Matriz Church of Vila do Bispo, Aspa Tower and the Sea and Carrapateira Land Museum.

Outside the towns, it’s difficult to decide what to visit first, the countryside or the coastline. The routes by nature are a fantastic opportunity to admire wild boars, foxes and badgers in their natural habitat, while the coast is a treasure trove of marine life, numerous species of local and migratory birds, and the beautiful beaches. Among the various species of birds that can be seen, it can be highlighted the rare osprey.

This section is included in the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, which extends from São Torpes, south of Sines, to Burgau. It covers territories in the municipalities of Aljezur, Odemira, Sines and Vila do Bispo.
