The MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, in Lisbon, presents the exhibition “A Thermodynamic Imaginary”, by the Argentine artist Tomás Saraceno, between March 21 of August 27.
In August 1709, Bartolomeu de Gusmão made the first elevation of an object heavier than air – a hot air balloon – and, three hundred years later, the Argentine artist develops sculptures that, defying gravity, float through the air by solar incidence, abdicating from helium or fuel.
These pieces are the basis of an artist’s research project entitled “Aerocene,” symbolically designating a time when the human race may come to inhabit these aerial structures.
Everyday (except on Tuesdays): 11:00 am - 07:00 pm
Start Date: 21 March 2018
End Date: 27 August 2018
